As I pulled myself away from the twitter and BigSoccer explosion that greeted the news that Bob Bradley had been retained as the U.S. Men's National Team coach on Monday, I realized that I felt more uncertain about the future of U.S. Soccer than I did before the announcement. Granted, part of that is probably due to the hyperbolous nature of the websites I just mentioned; yet, even reasonable soccer minds seem to agree that this decision by U.S. Soccer was perplexing at best.
. What was the U.S. plan of attack? Yes, we know: this was an exhibition/thank you/welcome home game for most of the 2010 US World Cup team. And Bob Bradley's future has been in question since the final whistle blew against Ghana. So maybe tactics and formation weren't a top priority in this game.
Apparently, I'm the only soccer blogger who didn't have a Rafa Marquez piece sitting in the chamber waiting to be fired off upon the signing of the Red Bulls third designated player on Monday. The El Tri and Barcelona legend's signature marks yet another monumental contract for the Red Bulls and MLS this summer, a signing that will no doubt turn some heads.
Because there was so much going on this weekend, I figured we'd dump all the news into this article. If there is something I missed, just post it in the comments. Below are 20 or so links that you'll want to read. Enjoy!
Just hours after I wrote 1500 words about why MLS fans shouldn't put much stock in the Kansas City win over Manchster United, The Puerto Rico Islanders made the case better than I ever could. A second division side came into the home of the MLS leaders, and in fact, a team that has had one of the most dominant first halves EVER in MLS, and laid them out.

The US Open Cup Finals are set, we’ll get you caught up on that action, as well as try to come up with things for DC, Chivas and New England to do now that their seasons are over. We’ll also tell you why the biggest news in MLS this week is NOT Thierry Henry scoring his first MLS goal.
Americans abroad have been active, we’ll tell you who’s hot and who’s not. And finally, we’ll try to answer the question: How many points do you need to safely make the playoffs?
(But mostly, we’ll probably be talking Bob Bradley.)
